Keeping with the baby boom in the class, Dana and I recently had baby girl #2. Rachel Anne Langston was born January 10. She was 7 lbs 6 oz and 19.5 inches long. Brian and I had our little boy #2 on November 11. His name is Gavin Terry Lee. I would have let you guys know, sooner, but I just started back at work last week and I wasn't "connected" at home.

Kelly delivered our third child, another girl, Bailey Madison Varner. She was 7 pounds , 6 ounces. We were close to delivering in our vehicle on our way to the hospitol in the Talladega National Forest. The baby was born only 45 minutes after arrival at the hospitol. Unfortunately, Kelly experienced natural child birth i.e. no epidural.

Kelly and I are now expecting our third child in December. We (i.e. Kelly) are past the crying and nashing of teeth stage (aka "What have we done" stage); we have now entered the "sick and throw up" period. Kelly loves babies but hates the pregnancy. I just clean up around the house; and try not to say too much.

Do you guys remember Alan Spencer? Well, I saw him, this weekend, at Karen Harper's house. He's doing pretty well. For those who haven't heard, he was in prison, recently, for killing a guy that robbed his store after the idiot tried to run Alan over with his stolen car. Long story short... he was in until he got a new attorney who got him a new hearing and he's out. Not sure for how long or if he's got a new trial or what, but at least he's home for now. And if I've gotten any of those details wrong, please feel free to post a correction. And keep Alan in your thoughts and prayers. He's been through alot!

Here's a quick update from me...

Number 2 will be here in November! We're really hoping for a girl. I'd like to NEVER be pregnant again and one of each would keep me from regretting anything! I love babies! But I hate havin' 'em! Braedon will point to my stomach (sort of) when we ask where the baby is. And he's saying "sister" or something that closely resembles that.

We're taking him on his first plane trip, this month. We've flown since he's been around, but never with him. This should be interesting! We'll be taking a short flight (about 1:30) to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Just a short weekend getaway to break him in. I'll let you know how it goes!

We just got back from St. George Island, FL, last week. Another short weekend. We flew down on Saturday and came back Tuesday. If you've never been and like quiet islands with no crowds and nice, private beaches, it's really worth it to rent a house down there for a week or so. There is NOTHING to do on the island other than hang out at the beach or pool, but what a nice getaway! We've been going down with friends every year for the past 4, but all us gals are expecting, so we couldn't wait until August (when we normally go). We'd all look like albino beached whales! So, it wasn't as warm as we would have liked, but still very nice.

O.K. That's about it. Somebody else's turn!

In my defense

I do remember knocking Robby out. However, I remember being dazed and confused myself. Then, with the entire team standing around, Coach Wilson sent me down the street to get ice. I never figured that one out. I do also remember the tests of coherency for Robby at the time: not "what day is it" or "where are you," but "What is your SAT score." Robby, of course, knew; so he was okay. Nevertheless, I was secretly thanked by all the other team afterwards; because Robby had sytematically seriously injured every team mate he ever had.

Corroboration of John's Random Memories

Although I wasn't there for all of John's specific memories, I will corroborate that they all sound familiar and believable. Here are a few of my own.

Basketball:

Colliding head first with Greg during a 3 on 2 fast break drill and being knocked out. (Actually I don't remember this, but was told this is what happened).
Richard Kellog watching the team run extra suicides due to the team's lack of hustle.

Study hall with Miss Williamson:

Consisted of me, Jamey Rowland, Ben Pounds, Jeremy Angel and Jeff Fessler (I think, hard to remember exactly).
Miss Williamson informing Ben that there is more than one meaning to a certain derogatory term (thinking that Ben was calling Jeff Fessler either a cigarette or a bundle of sticks).
Certain unexplained electrical failures in Miss Williamson's room coinciding with Jamey being gone to the "bathroom". (code for circuit panel).

If any of these memories are in error, or falsely incriminating, please let me know.

You can post photos using "Hello" and "Picasa 2" -- both are free from Google.

It's nice because you can do "two-click" blogging. If you download and install Picasa, it goes through all your digital photos on your computer and groups them by date.

You find the photo you want to post, click the "Blogger" button, then a program called "Hello" opens and allows you to type some text. When you're ready you can click "Publish" and it just shows up on our web site.

You will need to set up Hello so it knows your login settings for the blog, and the great part is that it posts photos to your free Blogger blog.

You don't have to publish photos this way if you don't want to -- you can even just post text without having to log in and all that -- just use Hello.

If folks can post frequent, short blurbs, that will breathe life into this.

Let me know if you would like greater explanation on using Picasa and Hello.

motivational post: random memories

So we're getting some posts, GREAT!

Thought I'd share a few random memories from the day and see if anyone can corroborate these or add your own.

Baseball:

One day during Varsity practice, Robby was at bat and for whatever reason started driving multiple shots (a lot of them) over the center field fence and bouncing them off the football building that was about 50 feet past the fence. I was pretty impressed.
The day I hyperextended my knee sliding into home during the early innings of a game. I think it was Junior year. I remember poor Allison (who was the mananger at the time) applying Icy Hot in vain. I played the rest of the game and was on crutches for 6 weeks after that.

Band:

Pretty much all the band trips. The memory of them is strong in my mind even after all these years.
Playing "Sleigh ride" in some mall at Christmas several different years. I still hate that song.

Senior Year:

The songwriting around my love-affair with someone named "Nancy" I met in Colorado the summer before Senior year.
The shock on everyone's face when Nancy was at graduation.

I can't belive we are all so old that we graduated almost 13 years ago. Where has the time gone? I am cracking up at the photos John posted. Could our hair get any bigger!?!

I am living in Snellville, GA. I am a teacher/administrator at Mount Carmel Christian School in Stone Mountain, GA. I am also a professor at Atlanta Christian College. I just can't seem to get away from East Point! I am still single - I'm still holding out!

I hope we get more posts. It's fun to hear what everyone is up to.

Hello Friends

Hoping to keep the blogging momentum going I thought that I would post a quick update of what's been going on since the reunion.

We still live in Powder Springs and attend Midway Presbyterian church (www.midwaypca.org). In fact, we will be in Brooke's state (N.C.) this weekend with the middle schoolers from the church. I still work at Georgia Medical Care Foundation (www.gmcf.org).

The biggest change in our lives since the reunion has been the addition of Abigail Grace (she goes by Abby). She has been a joy.
She is 12-months old. I have not yet figured out how to get her picture attached properly as a .jpeg file, so hopefully, here is a link to a recent picture of the family. http://public.fotki.com/RobbyL/langston_family/scan.html

I felt compelled to post something after being scolded by our taskmaster, John.

I still live in the "booming metropolis" of Ashland, Alabama. I am about twenty minutes east of Talladega. I live about 2 hours from East Point. I now have two girls, Karis, age 3, and Emma Kate, age 6 months.

I continue with my general small town practice. I still enjoy criminal defense most; however, gradually I am being enticed to become an "ambulance chaser."

My mother moved to Ashland with my grandmother and great-aunt.

Hey! I'm really excited about this site! It's depressing to think that we are all so scattered that the only way we can keep up with each other is on the net!

I sent a few of you an email last week giving you a quick update, but here is a quick recap for those that I didn't have addresses for.

Brian and I celebrated our 4th anniversary, last month. Wow. It really seems like we just met. Time flies! He's hanging in there with Delta Airlines and has been there for about 8 years. Yeah, the company is hurting, still, but we're still enjoying our flight benefits! We'll be taking Braedon on his first flight, this May.

Our son, Braedon Cade (no normal names in this family!) will be 2 in August. He is the best! Just watching him learn new stuff blows my mind. I'm not sure where he got his "smarts", but it seems like he learns something new and amazing every day! His list of new terms grows constantly! (zhose = rose; dadoo = Brian; Caillou = the most painful cartoon that PBS ever created, but the world would come to an end without it!)

Mom and dad are doing good. (aka "Mimi" and "Pop") They keep Braedon while I work. I'm working full time as the church secretary at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hiram. It's a fairly large church (about 1500 members) with a very active youth ministry, an Awana program, Upward Basketball and Cheerleading, etc. The people are amazing and they're incredibly good to me.

Well, that's about it. I'd really like to hear from you guys, so jump in anytime! Even if you don't have alot to say, it's nice to know you're still out there! And if you've heard from anyone that I haven't, please give an update on them, too. That reminds me... has anyone heard from Michelle Findley, Matt Stone or Hannah Thomaston?

Week one roundup

Well after just a few days, we have a growing list of members as part of our class blog. Thanks to those of you who have joined.

There are some things I want to make sure that everyone understands about how this works so we can hopefully avoid problems or misunderstandings.

First off, this blog is not private. It is conceivable that anyone on the web could visit this page and see what we have written. For that reason I would discourage sharing addresses and phone numbers on this page.

Secondly, images are going to be a recurring issue. This web site is free from Blogger, and does not include posting and hosting images.

I would recommend that if you want to post photos, go to flickr and get a free account. Then you can link to any photos you want to. This is my Flickr page. Flickr is free up to 100 photos.

Flickr is also nice because it does have optional security built in so only others who are allowed can view the photos. If you are interested in using Flickr, email me. I will send you an invitation from Flickr then you can get started sharing photos of all those cute kids.

Third, set up your blogger profiles with at least a little information. Jeannie Lee did this so you can at least see some of who she is (click her name at the top-right of this page).

HI everybody!

Well, as I said in my title--hi!
John--thanks so much for setting this up for us!
Since I last saw all of you at the reunion, some things are the same, and some have changed pretty dramatically. I am still an assistant prof at Wingate University, and like my job very much. But, I have moved down the street from my previous address to the house I bought in July of 2003. It's in the old downtown of Monroe, and I have learned all the joys and frustrations of having a 100 yr old house! (The frustrations mostly come from ancient heating units). But, I love it! I also have added a dog to my life. She's great--and now I can't imagine life without her. She's a lab/golden cross, and seems to have all of the best traits of each. And yet another big change--I have been dating someone seriously for about eight months now. He's a grad student in history at Auburn, so between the two of us we spend a lot of time on the road. But, the distance issues are short term, and you can deal with almost anything for a specified time!

I am so excited about the opportunity for all of us to connect more frequently. It's hard to be an adult and move away from all your roots! It's nice to have a way to connect with them again.

I'll fill you in on Kacey Combs White, too (she doesn't have her email up and going yet, but she should soon). She and Andy have a 15 month old daughter, Canna Abigail White (she's called Abbie), and she's a beautiful child. Kacey still works at urgent care one long shift a week, so she is getting to stay home with her most of the time and really enjoying it.

I guess I should go now--I'm supposed to be grading papers, but of course I'm doing something else (yes, I am as bad as my students!). Spring break is next week and I have much to do before I can play!

Hey everyone from CHCS Class of 1992.

At our reunion 2+ years ago, I told everyone that I would build a web site for us to be able to keep up on each other.

As you are by now aware, I have not yet done this. Well that changes today!

Here's what I'd like to do with this:

Get everyone who is willing to be a contributor to this "blog"
When folks post they put up things that are related to our years at CHCS, major events in our lives since then, photos from "the day" or any information about getting us together or photos and accounts of those meetings that have taken place

Here's what I need you to do:

I would like as many contributors to this as possible. The last thing any of us wants is to have me throwing my 2 cents on this page once a week.
If you want to contribute, it's free [and super easy] but I need you to follow a few instructions:

Create a blogger account

go to www.blogger.com
create a new account (please use your real name, not something like "superfrizz73")
add as much or as little personal information to your blogger profile as you want
once you have your account, let me know by e-mailing me at john@daharsh.net
I'll add you as a contributor to this blog

I want to lay a few ground-rules

We'll try and keep this blog as a "general class stuff" space. If you are a contributor or have a blogger account or another web page, you can link to that and put more personal information (or information specific to you) on that page.
